as it happens, i met up with a few people before the start of this season looking into displays etc. thats where we derived at the things I mentioned below. theres definite support available to get something going.

reckon its difficult at chelsea to start something like this for a few reasons:

- we have a LOT of divs in our ground. mosaics that the club has tried before completely flopped, a lot of the time we struggle getting the big banners out correctly before a match. to get any kind of display sorted would take a lot of work to get it right. good chance it would backfire

- anything at chelsea thats done under a "group" will always generate conflict from those that aren't involved. If people feel like they are being excluded they'll oppose it and be a pain in the arse. Some good mates of mine are city fans who are behind their 'blue alliance' group. they aint ultras or anything but they've made a few banners/flags/displays occasionally, and they experience the same thing where other fans go out of their way to give them shit. if anything is started, i reckon its best to not do it under a collective name.

- can imagine a lot of the old school lot having similar views to above, and also thinking "what the fuck is this? im not getting involved"

i reckon its possible to get something going, but those things would have to be taking into account IMO.

on a personal note, I couldn't think of anything worse than something being started and then doing the same palace/st pauli songs and generic watered down ultras stuff that you generally get in england. english football culture is still the bollocks and I think a lot of the ultras here try to make it "european" for the sake of it, rather than for any reason.

reckon new songs should be encouraged, especially ones that arent just one or 2 words repeated. but I really hope that "new songs" doesn't just mean singing the generic shit ultras songs.

same goes for banners, if anything is started, they should be unique, relevant and purposeful, not just for the sake of it.

I'd personally love to see more of the old school flags we used to have in the 90's encouraged. barmy flags are great quality and look good (i have one), but every cunt has them now which is a bit boring.

we spoke about just having things in one small section of the ground to start with, the left hand corner of MHL was mentioned (G16 area). this would give the rest of the ground a chance to see how things work.

It's difficult to start something at Chelsea but it's difficult to start something everywhere, there's always challenges but they can be overcome.

I also completely agree regarding English terrace culture. It is the bollocks, it is what the European ultras scene was founded upon with a little continental twist and in its purest form it is still respected across the continent - but the fact is that it is dying.

Terrace culture in its old organic, spontaenous, disorganised form is on its last legs in this country. You still get dressers, you still get clued up lads who are passionate and interested in the fan scene but they are diluted by the divs. Football has become one big "sidaaaaaaahn" and "Sloop John B" fest and it's bollocks.

I think the growing use of pyro at our club and in this country marks a shift in views towards the European model being something strange that we "don't get" here and a new willingness to embrace the colour/spectacle they create over there, although admittedly it is watered down in an English way due to the ridiculous laws on pyro (see two poor lads yesterday).

To do anything of note will need organisation - whether the group needs a name or not is debateable but reckon the cliqueness it can be inclusive rather then exclusive - you don't know how it will go down till you try, but something has to be done.

Of course if something got off the ground then everything would be kept private.

reckon chelsea's culture should be at the forefront of anything, rather than just being another set of ultras for the sake of it. There's still a ton of fashion, music, culture that's tied to the club's support that is way better than generic ultra trends.

Yeah, I agree. I would like to see a 2013 hybrid taking the best things from continental ultras culture and incorporating the best of English and specifically Chelsea terrace culture from down the years.

Organisation is vital though. What kind of feedback did you get in the summer?

spoke about the new big flag, that north stand banner thats above g16, a few other idea's but nothing really came of it. discussed doing streamer displays, those big flags that are draped over both tiers etc. would have been good for arsenal/united/liverpool at home. suppose theres still tottenham to play where something could be done.

I always liked the english ''style'' (something that was actually very big with young Grobari since the mid 80s),
maybe it's just the case of over-saturation with the same-old from both sides (english and european),in order to re-invent or shake the things up a bit,but the two ''traditions'' dont necessarily mix together so successfully eg the city's ''poznan'' thing

but blue smoke bombs do look very nice

It's gonna take some organisation to get it going but I believe there is a good hardcore of passionate, younger fans from 16-30 who want to step up to the plate and do something, it's just a question of getting them organised together.

I agree with the above posts, if anything is going to take off i just hope its not as cringeworthy as the Palace Ultra's, we're Chelsea & have always been one of the top five firms/fans in the country who also lead the English abroad for a number of years, i'd hate our reputation to be ruined by soppy banners ect, however if its done in a right way then it'll be the bollocks, i hate to say it but maybe we should look at some of Man Utds support, their away support is second to none imo, look at our league cup game their whole end seemed to have 6,000 casuals, of course there was proberly shirters in their end but all you could see was 1,000s of casuals, no jester hats/face paint mugs, their flags were quality as well, the stretford enders have been trying to change their support at OT & without having resorted to Ultra style support.
